The Priory Learning Trust (Somerset Business Award winner for Employer of the Year) is looking to recruit an Education Welfare Officer to work at our Worle Community School – An Academy site in Weston-super-Mare, a five minute drive from the M5 junction, 2.9 miles from the beach, and with strong public transport links.

The main purpose of this role is to promote positive attitudes towards regular school attendance on the part of students and their parents/carers, to improve levels of student attendance and engagement, and to work closely with the school to fulfil its obligations under all relevant legislation.

What you will do to be successful here;

  • Support with Educational welfare across the school and work closely with the attendance team and pastoral staff to improve school attendance for all students.
  • Conduct weekly safe and wellness checks (home visits) for absent students.
  • Manage a caseload of severely absent students, and work with the Attendance manager to implement strategies to improve attendance.

What you will need to succeed;

  • Experience of working with a wide range of agencies, and working with school age children and their families.
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills.
  • An understanding of current education law, and the services provided within education.

This role involves working with children on a daily basis and is therefore in regulated activity.
